Buzz-er---KLEY! For Burghley!

The Patronage, Mrs. Lady Duburgh! This would be her residence! This was one of my favorite exteriors, very different baroque style with elaborate everything. Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous…each of the homes we visit has similarities of the baroque style but also has beautiful touches that make them all their own. The Burghley House’s claim to fame are the extensive murals first in the entry, Hell…depicting the gorgeous paintings planning walls and ceilings. Massive Candler stairs cases scaling the sides leading to the next room, heaven…and along with a tub like silver wine cooler, was all grand and glamorous. The ball room was coated in wood inlays and beamed ceilings with a gallery looking over the pitched ceilings. It was spectacular. We headed next into the orangery where we snacked on Aero hot chocolate cream tea, which is scones with clotted cream and jam. With a few raindrops…okay a few more than that and my 2nd umbrella in tow we headed out to see a little of the gardens; a moss covered fountain surrounded by blooming lily pads. Vines covering the walls, spectacular flowers…just beautiful.
Stopping in Stamford for some great shopping, and ah…what do you know 3rd umbrella…I have now spent almost $30.00 on umbrella’s! Rain, Rain Freaking go away! We found a great store with some fantastic sales…jeans for 15lbs! Stamford has it’s one little claim to fame, it’s the town of Hertfordshire in Pride and Prejudice! And really is one of my favorite small English communities yet. Here we found this great little pastry shop and got ourselves some incredible pasties! I heart pasties…
We took our train ride back home and of course did a little shopping then Whit and I found this great pub and had the traditional English meal, Yorkshire puddings, pot roast, potatoes, carrots, broccoli…so ridiculously good! After wondering around down town a bit we hoped on our pod, and around and around we went on the London Eye! It was absolutely gorgeous, and such a wonderful way to see the city. The sun was setting and the city began to glow. There were two guys with us in the pod, one grew up in Utah…crazy small world, it was so fun, being goofy with Whit! We stepped out and into a…you guessed…a tempus! Again. We tried our hardest to walk against the wind, with torrential winds whipping me…ah, my new umbrella! Crossing the bridge over the Thames I was sure I would die before reaching the tube! Mind that Gap!
